Rita Flynn, 95, passed to her eternal reward on February 27, 2015 surrounded by family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Catherine Flynn; brothers, Dennis (Marian) and Jack; sister, Mary A. (Robert) McMahon; brother-in-law, James McCabe, Sr.; and nephews, John K. McMahon and Michael Flynn. She is survived by her sister, Margaret McCabe; and many nieces and nephews most of whom were with her during her final days and hours. Although Rita never married, she was a wonderful second mother for two generations of Flynn's, McCabe's and McMahon's together with their spouses, children and friends. She was a member of St. James Church, Johnson City. Rita will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, her gracious and boundless hospitality, unconditional love and trust in God, her prayerfulness, and a never failing love and commitment to her family. Rita retired from IBM after more than 35 years, beginning as secretary, then executive secretary, and for many years, as an administrator in the IBM retirement program where she earned the appreciation and friendship of countless IBM retirees. She was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club, a member of the Ladies of Charity, Lector and Eucharistic Minister at Blessed Sacrament Church, and a volunteer in the Religious Education program for the parish and local Deanery. She was the long time secretary of the Johnson City Democratic Club. The entire family would like to express their full hearted appreciation to the administration and staff of Good Shepherd Fairview Home for their wonderful and loving care for Rita. They truly lived up to their name. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. James Church, Johnson City on Wednesday at 9:30am. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton on Tuesday from 2-5pm. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Rita may be made to Catholic Charities of Broome County, 232 Main St., Binghamton, NY 13905.
