Obituary of Mary A. Lehmann

Prof. Mary Agnes (Case) Lehmann passed away peacefully on February 14, 2015 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was greeted at the Gates of Heaven by her only love, her husband Charles J. Lehmann, her beloved daughter, Helen L. Lehmann, beloved son, Charles E. Lehmann and her parents, Prof. James J. Case and Helen A. (Enright) Case. Also in heaven waiting for her were her brother, James J. Case and his wife Madeline (Burns) Case and her sister, Betsy (Case) Reynolds and her husband Mickey Reynolds. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, John and Cathy Case, her daughter, The Hon. Mary Anne Lehmann; grandson, Peter Lehmann Saba and his wife Kim as well as their beautiful children, Jonah and Genevieve; her grandson, Adam Lehmann and his mother, Marietta Lehmann and her grandson, Tristan Lehmann and his mother Kathy Zabadal Lehmann; dear family friends the Condon's, Dorothy, Robin and Johnny as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Mary was born and raised in Binghamton. She graduated from Binghamton Central High School and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She and her brother Jim were the first brother and sister to graduate from RPI. She was simply the brightest woman we knew. She taught organic chemistry at BCC for over 30 years and was the first woman to teach in that department. She blazed a trail wherever she went. She was twice named Professor of the Year by graduating classes. She truly loved her profession Mary was a devout Catholic who loved her Irish roots and was very proud of her association with St. Patrick's Church in Binghamton where she was a lifelong communicant. Her father was the Organist and Choir Director at St. Patrick's for over 25 years. Mary was always surrounded by her extended Irish family, especially her 3 children, whom she cherished and to whom she devoted her life. Her door was always open and the tea kettle was always on. Her generosity knew no bounds, she had a smile for everyone. She loved her extended family on Bennett Avenue. The family wishes to express our heartfelt thanks for the extraordinary care Mom received, to the staff and Dr. Husmann at Elizabeth Church Manor. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Patrick's Church, Binghamton Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Johnson City in the Spring. The family will receive friends at the J.A.
