Obituary of Kathleen R. Perkins

Perkins, Kathleen Binghamton, NY: Kathleen (Kay) Rita Buckley Perkins, 82, of Binghamton, NY, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, with her children at her side. She left four children, John (Jeannie), Karen, Robin Ann Dominguez (Bobby), Susan Jones (Stuart), and was predeceased by an infant daughter, Susan. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Robert (Emily), Matthew, Gabriel, and Micaela; and two great-grandchildren, Samuel and Madeline. Kay is also survived by her siblings, Joan Hickey, Thomas (Cindy) Buckley, and Ann (Jerry) Walker. Her sister, Mary Korenka, predeceased her several years ago. She also had many beloved nieces and nephews. Kay leaves behind numerous cherished friends, including her fourth "daughter," Gail Dattoria. She was an active practicing Registered Nurse for 62 years at Binghamton General, Broome County Public Health, Wilson Hospital (now UHS), Garabedian A. Fattell Community Free Clinic, and the American Red Cross. At age 65, Kay did a two-year stint with the Peace Corps in Kiribati (a small island nation in the South Pacific). She was a devout member of St. James Parish, Johnson City, and was an active volunteer up to the time of her passing. Kay was an adventurous traveler who visited countries around the world including North and South America, Europe, Asia, the Far East, and the South Pacific. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. James Church, Johnson City, Friday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Thursday from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Kay may be made to Heifer International, 1 World Ave., Little Rock, AR 72202 or the American Red Cross, 620 E. Main St., Endicott, NY 13760.
