Obituary of Carolyn B. Greene

Carolyn Belle Mayer Greene, formerly of Binghamton, died on August 12, 2014 at the age of 88. Ms. Greene was a Binghamton City School teacher at Horace Mann Elementary School from 1977 until she retired in 1988. She had previously taught in the Connecticut public school system. Born on February 4, 1926 in Oneonta, NY, Ms. Greene was the daughter of Joseph N. and Mabel F. Mayer (deceased) of Binghamton. Ms. Green was a 1943 graduate of Binghamton Central High School, attended the University of Rochester, and earned her BA from Syracuse University through the original Harpur College, Endicott, NY, in 1949. She received a Master of Science in Education from Southern Connecticut State College in 1965. A gifted artist, Ms. Greene was a member of the Fine Arts Society of the Southern Tier (FASST) and exhibited her award-winning photography and paintings in the Binghamton area. She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffery M. and his wife Andrea Barbakoff, and Hans and his wife Margaret Ann Morris. She was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph N. Jr. and William Mayer. Graveside services will be held in Vestal Hills Memorial Park, Section V, Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Reverend Ernest A. Steffensen will officiate. A lifelong lover of dogs, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Glen Highland Farm, 217 Pegg Rd., Morris, NY 13808.
