Bernard R. Griffin, 79, of Binghamton, NY, passed away peacefully on February 19th, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born in Binghamton to Joseph and Helen Griffin, Bernie was raised among his eight siblings in Friendsville, Pa. He was a graduate of Owego Free Academy and earned an Associate's degree from Broome Community College. Bernie was a skilled machinist at IBM, he took great pride in his precision and craftsmanship. In retirement, he found joy in traveling as well as the many friendships he made as a dedicated member of the YMCA. A loving husband and father, his most cherished title was that of Grandpa, aka Bumpa. He was a pillar of strength and encouragement to his grandchildren, particularly in their sporting endeavors. Bernie will be fondly remembered for his kind heart, infectious laughter, and zest for life. His legacy of love and support will continue to resonate within the hearts of his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Proud of his Irish heritage and Catholic faith, he was a parishioner of St. John's for over 50 years. He was predeceased by sisters Rita and Doris; brothers Bob, and Bill. Bernie is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Martha (Donlin) Griffin, his children Kevin (Karni) Griffin, and Susan (Peter) Malejs. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Lea and Daniel Griffin, Kara and Maggie Malejs. He leaves behind sisters Catherine and Barbara, and brothers Don and Mike; in-laws John (Sharon) Donlin and Elaine Donlin, as well as many adored nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be offered at the Church of Saints John and Andrew, Vestal Avenue, Binghamton, Wednesday February 28, 2024 at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Augustine's Cemetery, Silver Lake, PA at a later date. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 4 to 6 p.m. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the compassionate staff at Mercy House, along with Lourdes Hospice. In honor of Bernie's legacy, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to Mercy House of the Southern Tier, 212 N. McKinley Ave. Endicott, NY 13760, reflecting his commitment to serving others.
