We lost our hero on Monday January 22, 2024. Robert W. Sweet, Sr. passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. Robert (Bob, Dude) wore many hats and touched every heart he came in contact with. He was predeceased by his parents, Floyd and Lillian Sweet, his brother Floyd (Barrie) Sweet, his sister, Janice Sweet, loving nephew David Sweet, and his favorite cousin, Sandra Scanlon. He is survived by his treasured wife, Catherine P. Sweet, son Robert Sweet, Jr. (Julie), daughters Kelly Marcus (John), Karen Sweet-O'Neill (Gary), Tracy O'Hara (Kevin), Kim Sweet, and devoted bonus daughter Karen O'Neil. Loving grandchildren Tara Bercham (Benjamin), Nathaniel Marcus (Sara), Adam Marcus (Rachael) , Mary O'Neill, and Oliver Camilo (Makenzie). Six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Dude. Bob was born in Binghamton, NY on March 3, 1930. After graduating from Binghamton Central High School he joined the U.S. Coast Guard. Upon returning home he met his "Hon", Catherine and they have been together for 68 years. She was the love of his life and together they raised a beautiful family. His career started with E.A. Sweet Company, Inc. Then, after much persuasion by his best friend, Dan Ross, he joined him in the insurance business. His knowledge, kindness and hard work ethic was evident in his success in providing for his family, which was the most important part of his life. We are forever grateful to have such a wonderful husband, father and grandpa. He will always be our shining light, leading us by his example. We Love You Forever. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Paul's Church, Binghamton, Friday, January 26, 2024 at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at St. Paul's Church, Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Bob's memory may be made to St. Paul's Church, 15 Doubleday Street, Binghamton, NY 13904 in the form of a donation or Mass request.
