Obituary of Joyce M. Steed

Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joyce Lane Steed of Binghamton and Johnson City, New York, passed away on December 21st, 2023, at the age of 89. She was predeceased by her husband Dr. Leonard L. Steed II in June 2005. Also predeceased by her parents Molly (Mahoney) & Ambrose Lane, sister Evelyn Spring (Bill Spring), Robert (Beverly) Lane, sister Dorothy Dowdle (Edward Dowdle), and son Patrick Steed. She is survived by her children, Thomas Steed of Key Largo FL, Marion (Morey) Steed of White Lake, NY, Leonard L. Steed III (Martha) of Brackney, PA, Sarah Steed of Raleigh, NC and Martin (Michelle) Steed of Charleston, SC. She loved her nieces and nephews Sally Russell (Spring), Billy Spring, Suzanne Spring, Sharon Tzivanis (Spring), Kathy Martin (Ned), Phyllis Scanlon (Bill), Thomas Lane (Marilyn), Carolyn Lane, Mary Pat Grzymala (Stan), Beth McDuffie (Mark), Maryliz Pines (Dowdle), Patricia (Zimmer), Tom Dowdle and John Dowdle and her many great-nieces and nephews just as much! Joyce was a kind and generous soul - usually thinking of how to help others. Fortunately, this blended well for a nursing career which began right after high school at Wilson Memorial with memorable rotations at the State Hospital. She was glad she was able to work well into her 70's within Dr's Shah and Ramanujan's offices helping where she could. She was very proud of her Irish, Mahoney, and Brackney origins, always looking forward to the Mahoney family reunion at St. Augustine's and the Rod and Gun Club. She greatly enjoyed playing golf, attending services at St. Thomas Aquinas, and embarking on trips to Ireland with her sister Dorothy, friends, and her cousin Reverend Gerald J. Buckley. She traveled to Kodiak, Alaska with her family on a fishing expedition as recent as 2010. Joyce relocated to Good Shepard Endwell for her last few years and her family is so thankful for their generous care of her. She was much loved and will be very missed! A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Highland Avenue, Binghamton, Saturday December 30, 2023 at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemtery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Saturday from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. Expressions of sympathy in Joyce's name can be made to Mom's House, 770 Harry L Drive, Johnson City, NY 13790.
