William Paul Slimbaugh Jr., MD passed away February 11, 2014, surrounded by family. He was predeceased by his parents, William P., Sr. and Rita Slimbaugh; his brother, Dr. Donald J. Slimbaugh; a cousin, Donald Beach Jr.; his uncle, Reverend Donald J. Slimbaugh; brother-in-law, John Hannon; mother and father-in-law, Henri and Catherine Longpre. He was also predeceased by an extended family of aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Suzanne; his children, Kimberly Slimbaugh (Ruth and Riley Sullivan), Teresa Slimbaugh, William P. Slimbaugh III (Sarah); and beloved grandchildren, William IV, Jeb, Maggie and Addie Slimbaugh; his sisters, Mary Hannon and Sharon (Art) Wolf; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his two best friends of more than 70 years, Chris Demtrak and Ron Akel. He was a member of St. James Church, Johnson City. Dr. Slimbaugh was a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross and Georgetown University Medical School. Following Medical Residency training, he entered the US Army on Active Duty. He served as instructor of combat wound surgical care at the US Army Medical Field Service School at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX and Randolph Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX. After honorable discharge, he returned to Binghamton and joined Dr. Ben Matthews and Dr. Charles Shute in private practice of General Surgery. In 1986, he was one of the founding partners of Associates in Medicine, which is now United Health Services Medical Group. He was closely associated with the inception of the Upstate Medical Center Syracuse-Clinical Campus in Binghamton as Assistant Director of Surgical Services. At his retirement, he was Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at Upstate Medical Center Clinical Campus in Binghamton. During his career, he served on the Board of Directors of the Binghamton Boys and Girls Club, The Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena and the Binghamton Club. He was an avid golfer and fisherman, and a longtime member of the Binghamton Country Club and the Turtle Creek Club in Tequesta, FL. The family wishes to thank Drs. Frank Floyd, Christian Tvetenstrand, Joseph Readling and Edward Santelli for their care. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. James Church, Johnson City Friday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton Thursday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Guiding Eyes for the Blind, 611 Granite Springs Road, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598 or a charity of your choice .
