Please share a memory of Kevin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kevin G. McCane, 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 14th at Vestal Park Rehabilitation Facility with his family by his side. His battle with medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile and laughter. Kevin was born in Binghamton and spent his entire adult life on the west side where he and his wife, MaryEllen, raised their 7 children. He was happiest while surrounded by family and friends and never missed an opportunity to celebrate with a party! Kevin's smile could light up a room and his laughter was contagious; a legacy he has passed on to his children and grandchildren. Kevin graduated from Broome Technical College where he played basketball; a sport he loved. Upon graduation, he continued and completed his 5 year commitment in the U.S. Army Reserves. He enjoyed a nearly 30 year career working for CIGNA/INA as an insurance adjuster; a job he said was the perfect fit for him. Spanning four decades, Kevin was a dedicated Track and Field official and an honorary member of this association. During his early years, Kevin coached CYO basketball for St. Thomas Aquinas. He was so proud of his teams' successes on the court and frequently reminisced with opposing coaches about their friendly rivalries. Weekend treks to his beloved Adirondack camp were the highlight of Kevin's retirement and an opportunity for him to spend his days kayaking, hiking, and spending time with family and new friends. He also loved golfing with his pals, walking the neighborhood, and traversing the highways and byways to spend time with his loved ones. Kevin and MaryEllen spent many winters in Florida, traveled to Europe and trekked across the United States.
