Obituary of Gayle E. Lampe

Gayle Lampe, 75, of Binghamton passed away on July 15 at Lourdes Hospital. She was predeceased by her parents Burdett and Elizabeth (Knapp) Lampe, a brother, Albert, and sister-in-law, Jan. Gayle was born in Buffalo, N.Y. and then lived in Silver Springs, N.Y. She was a speech therapist for the Binghamton City School District for over 30 years. She loved to travel and visited most of the 50 states. Her favorite was Alaska. She enjoyed summer vacations in the Adirondacks and Outer Banks, N.C. She had a special fondness for Letchworth State Park where she worked serving ice cream for many summers. Gayle had an interest in the history of the Civil War and Erie Canal. She loved animals and was involved in the rescue of many cats, kittens and dogs. She was a Brooklyn Dodgers fan, and then an avid N.Y. Mets fan. Gayle was a generous donor to many charities. She was a member of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Binghamton. Despite a long-term struggle with debilitating arthritis, Gale maintained a positive attitude and a great sense of humor which uplifted many who knew her. She is survived by a nephew, Peter Lampe, a niece, Nikii Bachman, a great nephew, Graham, and great niece Savannah, all of Portland, Oregon. Gayle also leaves behind many close friends. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Patrick's Church, corner of Leroy and Oak Streets, Binghamton Friday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. Friends may call at St. Patrick's Church Friday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Gayle's name may be made to St. Patrick's Church, 9 Leroy St., Binghamton or to Fisher House Foundation, 111 Rockville Pike, Ste 420 Rockville, MD 20850.
