Ann (Coughlin) Nicosia, 89, of Vestal died on August 25th, surrounded by family, and joining her beloved husband Frank in eternal rest. She is survived by her children Mary Ann (John) Martin, Marguerite Nicosia, Sheila (Noel) Morales, Joseph (Johanna) Nicosia, Francis J. (Bernadette) Nicosia, and Anthony Nicosia, and by her 12 grandchildren, Ann (Ronald), John (Samantha), Cecelia (Marshall), Isabella, Nathaniel, Emmanuel, Augustine, Frances (Henry), Genevieve, Anthony, Guiliano, and Vita. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Mary (Coughlin) and William O'Boyle, Robert Coughlin, Mary Ann Coughlin, Cecelia (Coughlin) DePersis, and Tom and Sandy Minehan, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. Ann was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Francis T. Nicosia, earlier this year; by her parents, Timothy Coughlin and Marguerite (Crowley) Coughlin; and by her brother-in-law Peter DePersis.

Ann spent her early childhood on Binghamton's Southside before moving to Vestal where she lived most of her life, surrounded constantly by a large family and many friends. Starting from her first job at Frankie and Johnnie's Restaurant on the Vestal Parkway, where she made lifelong friends Frank and Kathleen Fitzsimmons, she saved up to attend nursing school. After graduating from Vestal High School in 1955, she attended the Binghamton State Hospital School of Nursing, earning her degree in 1958. As part of her nursing training, Ann worked in New York City at the Morrisania City Hospital in the Bronx, where she met Frank in 1956. While they both worked on completing their nursing degrees, Frank and Ann became engaged at the Empire State Building, marrying on October 4, 1958. After Frank served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in Valley Forge, they returned to Vestal in 1962. Ann and Frank raised their six children on a plot of land next door to where she grew up in Vestal. Ann describes her children as her greatest accomplishments, and most fun in life, until she became a grandmother and that fun multiplied.

Ann also worked as an industrial health nurse at IBM, then General Electric (which became Martin Marietta). Ann proudly maintained her nursing license throughout her life and over the years volunteered at clinics and Danielle House, in addition to many years of volunteer service at Blessed Sacrament and St. Vincent de Paul parishes. Ann held a special place for education and Vestal Central High (where she was crowned prom queen). Together with her childhood friend Dick Lloyd, she founded Vestal Central's 50 Plus Club, an alumni group which carries on today, hosting reunion picnics and awarding scholarships to graduating Vestal High seniors.

Known as Annie and Minnie to many, she could often be found in a rocking chair or a porch swing on her back porch, or she might invite you in for a cup of black coffee at the dining room table covered with pictures of friends and family near and far. Her signature favorite color, red, is known to everyone who loved her and it was everywhere in her life. She was perpetually sunny, looking on the bright side of life, and was always guided and strengthened by her enduring Catholic faith. Ann and Frank (or, as they were better known later on, Minnie and Paco) traveled extensively to visit their children and grandchildren, adventuring in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Florida, Virginia, California, Iowa, Ireland, and beyond, including trips to take their grandkids to Disney World. In later years, Ann and Frank's children and grandchildren enjoyed many summer weeks of "CousinFest" at the family home on Jensen Road, wandering with the dogs, visiting carousels, picking berries and wildflowers, and searching for heart rocks in the creek. We will all remember the weekly family Zoom calls established in 2020, birthdays and other celebrations at the Park Diner, and the 25-year run of annual family photo calendars. As our Minnie was fond of saying, "Aren't we all so lucky?"

The family would like to express our sincerest gratitude for the kindness, compassion, and excellent care provided by Hilltop (United Methodist Homes), especially Nicole Policare and the outstanding staff of the 1 West assisted living unit. Thank you to everyone, near and far, who called, wrote, visited, and kept Ann in their hearts and prayers these last months.

A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament Church, Clubhouse Road, Vestal, Friday September 4, 2026 at 11 a.m.. Burial will be in St. Augustine's Cemetery, Silver Lake, PA. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Thursday, September 3, 2026 from 4 to 7 p.m..
