Mary Christine Chuma Murray, age 96, passed away peacefully at her home in Binghamton, NY on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.


She was born on May 3, 1930, to Charles Vasil Chuma and Helen Ann Kalamets Chuma. Mary was a lifelong resident of Binghamton.


Mary was predeceased by her first husband William Anthony Wheeler, their daughter together, Pamela Marie Wheeler Murray, husband John Edmund Murray and siblings, John Chuma (Rose), Ann Chuma Clark (Donald), William B. Chuma (Joy), Michael Chuma (Mary).


She is survived by her children William David Wheeler Murray (June Omura Wheeler), Laura Kathleen Murray Graves (Anthony), Edmund Christopher Murray (Patricia Degnan), sibling Helen Rosalie Chuma Ashbery (James) and her many grandchildren, Michelle Alexandra Patane, Julia Katherine Patane (David White), Megan Lindsey Murray, Kaitlyn Alessandra Murray, Emilyn Ann Wheeler, Kira Susan Wheeler, William Henry Wheeler, Edmund John Murray and Grace Evelyn Murray and her great grandson, Oliver Charles White.


Mary attended Binghamton Public Schools and attended Broome Community College. While raising her children, she was a model for local business advertisements and became a licensed real estate professional.


Mary loved antiques and Persian rugs. A savvy buyer, she attended auctions regularly to expand her extensive collection. She was also deeply fond of tennis and encouraged her children to play. Into her later years, she enjoyed watching tennis matches televised from around the world and had distinct opinions as to the players' abilities.


A celebration of Mary Christine's life will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 1:00 P.M at J. A. McCormack Sons, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, N.Y. 13905. Private interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
