James F. O'Connell Obituary

James F. O'Connell, 80, of Endicott, New York, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026. He was born on November 8, 1945, in Binghamton, New York, to Joseph and Evelyn O'Connell.


Jim graduated from Binghamton Central High School before earning his degree from Biscayne College in Florida. In 1967, he married the love of his life, Mary Laury Lauterbach. They shared 42 wonderful years of marriage together.


A strong, loving, and supportive father, Jim was devoted to his family and especially cherished the time he spent with his grandsons. He enjoyed a long career with IBM, where he worked for many years.


In retirement, Jim embraced the "snowbird" lifestyle, spending many winters in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He often spoke fondly of his "Lakewood Family" and treasured the many lasting friendships he made there. Throughout his life, he pursued many interests and adventures, including boating, fishing, working with his hands, and flying.


Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife, Laury (Lauterbach) O'Connell.


He is survived by his son, John O'Connell and his wife, Nancy; his daughters, Shannon O'Connell and Colleen O'Connell; and his grandchildren, Daniel O'Connell and his wife, Chloe, Dominic DeLuca, and Paul O'Connell. He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him greatly.


Funeral Services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Friday August 7, 2026 at 11 a.m. Deacon William Matts will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home, Friday August 7 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.


In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Jim may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project in honor of James F. O'Connell.
