Emmet J. Martin, born April 3, 1946 in Bainbridge, NY is predeceased by his parents, Jerome and Eileen Martin, parents in law, Gerald and Anne Burns, and brother-in- law, Kevin Burns.

He was a wonderful father to his only child, Beth Martin Scordino. He married his high school sweetheart, wife of 61 years, Christine Martin (Burns) and was a gentle, present partner throughout. His memory lives on through them and in his son in law, Richard B. Scordino. His siblings, Michael J. Martin, Marie E. Hale (Martin) and brother in law, William Hale. His brothers and sisters in law, Gerald and Kathleen Burns, Thomas and Heather Burns and Patricia Burns. His many loved and entertained cousins, nieces and nephews. Dear and special friends, John P. McCann, Robert (Bud) Reyen and fur babies, Keely and Cheech.

Emmet was employed with Sears for 26 years, a realtor with Coldwell Banker and retired after 15 years as a probation officer with Broome County. He graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1964 and received his Masters degree from Binghamton University in 1974. He was a past President of Binghamton Lions Club.

He loved spending time with family, was an avid reader, gardener and loved remodeling and fixing things. He had a bunch of cool guitars and cars, most notably, his labor of love, 1970 Boss 302 Ford Mustang.

Emmet had a calm, authentic demeanor that commanded respect. He was an authority on common sense and conveyed his message in a dry humor with sweet undertones.

Emmet was a burly man with a beard who knew how to relax. He might not be the one dancing to his favorite 60's-70's classic rock bands but was often the one who played the tunes and relished in the good times with a contented smile. After a night of plentiful good times, his face may have been a little less contented on New Years Morning in 1970 when he awoke to the door knocking from his upstairs neighbor brother in law who's wife was in labor and needed to borrow his car. Emmet answered the door wearing only an American flag and spoke no words as he handed him the keys.

His presence was somewhat startling to a young niece or nephew up at the lake on Sunday's but also very intriguing. As he lounged with a big bag of Jax cheese curls, the kids may work up the courage to explore their curiosity.. often running back to mommy with tears after seeing the flash of his purposed, wide, toothy grin. If that didn't send them running, the deliberately impassive expression that quickly returned would finish them off. He showed no interest in quelling their fears and may have relished a bit in the affect that he had. Inevitably, the intrigue grew and, soon enough, they got to share some cheese curls, laughs and, fittingly, in his most athletic physical lake activity, skipping rocks (incredibly). Everything seemed fine to Emmet and we were drawn to him. He was a marvelous trip.

A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Patrick's Church, corner of Oak and Leroy Streets, Binghamton, Tuesday July 28, 2026 at 11:30 A.M. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at St. Patrick's Church, Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m.
