Eileen I. Sullivan Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eileen Inez Sullivan on July 4th, 2026, after a very brief illness. She passed at Lourdes hospital surrounded by her husband Kenneth Sullivan and her daughters Elizabeth and Katherine Sullivan.

Eileen was born on January 21st, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY. She was the child of Irene and Richard O'Halloran. Raised in Westbury, Long Island, she was the loving oldest sister of five children. She was a straight-A student at St. Brigid's elementary school and at Sacred Heart Academy and attended The College St. Elizabeth's in NJ before going on to receive her master's in social work at Fordham University.

Eileen led a life dedicated to service of others. She worked as a social worker for Catholic Charities, advocating for some of the most at-need people in New York City. She was a counselor and then a director of Nassau County 4H camp, a place where she made lifelong friendships.

She married her husband Kenneth on August 28th, 1981, and shortly after relocated to Binghamton, New York, where together they built a home of 45 years. She served the community as a social worker at Lourdes Hospital for 20 years. In her retirement, she stayed busy with volunteer work, including at Action for Older Persons in Endicott, NY. She led community organizing and events in her beloved second home of Atlantis, Florida.

She was a devoted mother to her two daughters and an endlessly patient and loving grandmother to her two grandsons. She was known for welcoming everyone into her home with warmth, generosity, and food.

Eileen is survived by her husband Kenneth Sullivan, daughters Elizabeth (Daniel MacGuigan) and Katherine Sullivan, and her grandsons Nathaniel and David MacGuigan. She is also survived by her siblings Rich (Harriet Reilly), Liz, Pete (Sarah), and Tree O'Halloran (Dan Culhane).

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Eileen's name may be made to Catholic Charities of Broome County.
