John (Jake) M. Forbes Jr, age 89, Apalachin, NY passed away on May 21st, 2026 at Lourdes Guthrie Hospital.
He is predeceased by his parents John and Anne Forbes, and a granddaughter Badia Forbes, and special friend Peggy Fiori.
He is survived by his children Timothy, Thomas and Susan Forbes; Grandchildren
Patrick (Minyka) Forbes, Elizabeth and Andrew Forbes ; special cousins Mary and Michael Lawryk; Peg and Dick Shiel; mother of his children and former wife
Dorothy Forbes; and old friends from Shaw's Trailer Park, Alexandria Bay, NY
He graduated from Binghamton Central High School, Clarkson University and was a licensed Professional Engineer (NY). He retired from IBM and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was also a member of Vestal Elks Lodge #2508 (life), George F. Johnson American Legion Post 1700, Ancient Order of Hibernians, National Rifle Association, National Wild Turkey Association and Clarkson Alumni Association. He served in the US Army Corps of Engineers.
He was an ardent fan of Notre Dame, NY Giants, Syracuse and the various local semi-pro football teams; St Louis Cardinals, NY Yankees and Binghamton Rumble Ponies baseball teams; Clarkson University, NY Rangers and Binghamton Devils hockey; Syracuse basketball. He also followed Binghamton and Vestal high school sports.
He loved hunting deer and turkey in NY and PA plus long weekends on the St. Lawrence River.
He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Vestal.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Thursday June 11, 2026 at 6 p.m. Deacon Edward Blaine will officiate. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home, Thursday June 11 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
