Joseph M. Kosik Obituary

Joseph Michael Kosik

July 7, 1998 – April 29, 2026

With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Joseph "Joey" Kosik, 27, beloved son, brother, and friend, on April 29, 2026 after a brief illness. Joey was a truly unique soul whose presence left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Gifted, curious, and tenacious, his resilience allowed him to overcome significant difficulties throughout his life.

Joey's love for his family was unwavering. He is survived by his loving parents Maggie (Mark) Collins and Joseph (Nicole) Kosik; his sisters Jessica (Colin) Edwards and Megan (Josh) Webb; and his cherished nephew Nolan and niece Quinn, who adored him and brought him immense joy. He also leaves behind his aunts, uncles, cousins, and his beloved "surrogate" mom, Sheila, along with many dear friends and extended family members who will miss him deeply.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Edward & Clara Kosik, paternal uncle, David Kosik, maternal grandparents, Robert & Anna Mae Coleman and William & Sally Collins, and his maternal uncle, Eldon Babcock.

Joey had an extraordinary passion for music that shaped both his life and the lives of those around him. A talented organist, pianist, composer, and cantor, he shared his gift generously, filling spaces with beauty, reverence, and emotion. After graduating from Susquehanna Valley High School in 2017, his dedication to his craft and deep love of learning led him to earn a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Music, as well as a Master of Science in Musical Composition at Binghamton University. Whether performing, composing, or simply sitting at the keys, Joey had a rare ability to communicate what words often could not. He served as the organist for St. Patrick's Church in Owego and St. Mary of the Assumption in Binghamton. Joey loved the Lord and spent time with him in prayer. On Friday nights, you could find Joey playing the piano as a dinner accompaniment at Station 45. He also found deep purpose in his role as a Special Education Teacher Aide for Broome-Tioga BOCES, where his patience, kindness, and empathy made a meaningful difference in the lives of the students he supported.

Outside of his professional and musical pursuits, Joey embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. He was a hard worker and always seemed to have new interests, from carpentry to cooking. Joey's love for food was evident in his eagerness to experiment with new flavors and exotic dishes. Whether making pancakes with his nephew or preparing a traditional Irish or Polish dinner, sharing meals with family was important to him. Joey loved spending time camping with his dad and cooking meals over a fire. He and his dad also shared an interest in classic westerns and 1940s movies. Joey deeply cherished phone calls with his mom and traveling on family vacations, where he delighted in discovering historical sites and exploring lighthouses along the way.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the EMTs, Emergency Department staff, and the compassionate teams in the CVICU and ICU at UHS Wilson Medical Center for their care and support during this difficult time.

In honor of Joey's life and his passion for music, a scholarship will be established to be given each year to a Susquehanna Valley graduate pursuing a degree in music. Donations can be made in his memory to: SV Dollars for Scholars, PO Box 382, Conklin, NY 13748 (please note "Joseph Kosik Music Scholarship" on memo line).

His family will receive family and friends on Tuesday, May 5th from 4-6 pm at J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, NY. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday, May 6th at 10 am at St. Mary of the Assumption at 192 Court St, Binghamton, NY with a burial following at Saint Patrick's Cemetery on Irish Hill, PA.

Joey's light, talent, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. His music will continue to echo in the lives he touched, a lasting reminder of a life lived with depth, passion, and heart.

"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam." "May his soul be on the right hand of God."
