John A. "Jack" Gallagher Obituary

John "Jack" Arthur Gallagher, 74, of Binghamton, NY and longtime Fairfax, VA resident, passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside on April 24, 2026, following an illness with cancer.


Jack is survived by his wife, Christine, his sons Kyle, Andrew, and Sean, his brother Philip (Bonnie), his sister Patricia, and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dee and Tom. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Philip and Helen Gallagher.


Funeral services will be held at Saints John and Andrew Catholic Church, 1263 Vestal Ave., Binghamton, NY on May 12, 2026, at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 501 Fairview St., Johnson City, NY. Visitation will be held at the Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Rd., Fairfax, VA on May 9, 2026, between 5 – 7 PM. The family welcomes flowers or, if preferred, donations made to your favored charity in loving memory of Jack.


Jack was born in Binghamton, NY to Philip J. Gallagher and Helen P. (Reap) Gallagher in 1951. He graduated from Binghamton Central High School and went on to earn an Associate Degree from Broome Community College, Bachelor of Science Degree from Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY, and an MBA in Management from Marymount University, Arlington, VA.


Upon graduating high school, Jack started working at WBNG-TV. He took on many roles there, including TV program director and accounting. While in Fairfax, he worked as a Corporate Controller and Accountant in private practice. After retirement, Jack continued to volunteer in Fairfax communities. He served for many years on the board of directors of his homeowners association, managing the community's finances. He was involved in BSA Scouting America as an adult leader in his sons' cub scout Packs 1113 and 882. Jack followed his sons into the Boy Scout Troop 1887, where he was the Troop's treasurer and a trained leader.


As a young man, Jack enjoyed attending local baseball and hockey games in Binghamton. He participated in Broome County motorsports as a member of a drag racing team. He had over 15 years experience coaching Tee-Ball and Little League Baseball, and CYO and Burke Basketball teams in New York and Virginia. Jack also played an active role in the extracurricular activities of his sons as an adult leader at their Boy Scout outings, and assisting in Concert Band field trips as a chaperone and bus driver.


Jack never hesitated to lend a helping hand to his community, and will be remembered for his extensive volunteer services.
