Please share a memory of Francis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Francis T. Nicosia, 91, of Vestal died on January 28, 2026, after a brief illness surrounded by family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Ann (Coughlin) Nicosia, children Mary Ann (John) Martin, Marguerite Nicosia, Sheila (Noel) Morales, Joseph (Johanna) Nicosia, Francis J. (Bernadette) Nicosia, and Anthony Nicosia, and 12 grandchildren, Ann (Ronald), John (Samantha), Cecelia (Marshall), Isabella, Nathaniel, Emmanuel, Augustine, Frances (Henry), Genevieve, Anthony, Guiliano, and Vita. He is also survived by brothers- and sisters-in-law Cecelia DePersis, William and Mary O'Boyle, Robert Coughlin, Mary Ann Coughlin, and Tom and Sandy Minehan, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Frank was predeceased by his parents, Angelo Nicosia and Frances Marinaccio Nicosia, and recently by dear brother-in-law Peter DePersis.
Frank grew up in Beacon, NY with his many Marinaccio relatives nearby. A lifelong lover of music, he joined his local drum and bugle corps in high school. At age 16, he became the youngest barber licensed in New York State and he later moonlighted as a jazz drummer while working at the Roosevelt Hotel's celebrity barber shop in New York City. He met his wife Ann in September 1956 at Morrisania City Hospital in the Bronx where both trained as nurses. Following their betrothal at the Empire State Building, Frank and Ann married on October 4, 1958. In the early years of their marriage, he served as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps, then settled in Vestal in 1962. He opened Frank's Barber Shop on Rano Boulevard in Vestal and worked there until retiring just a few years ago at age 88. He had many special and beloved generations of customers, and loved talking to and learning from everyone he met. He always had a story or wisdom to share and stayed aware of all goings-on in the Triple Cities. Frank was a serious runner traveling the hills of Vestal, an avid reader of American history, and had an appreciation for "clear thinkers." He was Paco to his grandchildren and Frank the Barber to his community.
