Obituary of Peter M. DePersis
Please share a memory of Peter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Peter M. DePersis, 92, of Binghamton died on January 21, 2026. He is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Cecelia (Coughlin) and daughter Jennifer.
He was predeceased by his parents, Modesto and Mary (Romeo), father and mother-in-law Timothy and Marguerite Coughlin, brothers and sisters-in-law Joseph (Theresa), Edward (Irene), and Ronald (Nancy).
He is also survived by a special brother and sister-in-law, Francis and Ann Nicosia as well as William and Mary O'Boyle, Robert Coughlin, MaryAnn Coughlin, Godson Timothy Coughlin, and many treasured nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A lifelong south sider, Pete proudly joined the Army and traveled through Europe. When he returned, he worked for The White Star Market. He retired from Binghamton University but continued to work until he was 86 for EnJoie Golf Club, M & T Bank and lastly Horizons Credit Union. He made great friends wherever he went. Keeping busy kept him happy and well.
He was a proud Italian American Catholic with a soft spot for the Irish. He had a hole in one at Ely Park, owned microshares of racehorses, was a lifelong Red Sox fan, and followed the stock market faithfully. He read the NY Post every day and kept up with politics. He was quiet but had a lot to say. He loved telling stories about growing up on the south side.
Even with all his health issues, he never complained. As one of his nurses said, "he won the race". He had a life well lived. We took comfort that his brother Ron was at The Oxford Veterans Home when he got there last fall. Though they only had a few treasured weeks together, we know Ron was waiting for him again.
We'd like to thank Dr. Y and Kara and their team at Broome Oncology for their care, and everyone at The Oxford Veterans Home for welcoming him, making him a part of their family and the excellent care and attention.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at the Church of Saints John and Andrew, Vestal Avenue, Binghamton, Thursday January 29, 2026 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at the Church of Saints John and Andrew, Thursday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Pete may be made to The Broome County Humane Society or The Oxford Veterans Home.
