Larry attended West Junior High School where he met his High School Sweetheart, our Mom. Graduated from Binghamton Central High School in 1948. Years later in the 1970s he enjoyed being President of the Binghamton Central High School Booster Club. He and our Mom made a good team at sports fundraising events. Our Dad was a steadfast, Patriot and Veteran of the Korean War which he called the "Forgotten and Cold War"… He served in the US Air Force assigned to the Strategic Air Command (SAC) attaining the rank of Staff/SGT from 1950 to 1954 as well as the Air Force Reserves following. Our Mom and Dad enjoyed traveling and attending his annual squadron reunions. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 80, following the war. He began work at Link Aviation in 1954 and spent the following 37 years starting as an entry-level mechanical/assembler and "bootstrapped" his way to multiple levels of management. He managed and teamed various projects for flight simulation, which took him and our Mom to Cairo, Egypt, where he worked as the liaison between the US-Cairo Embassy and the Egyptian Military Air Ministry. He also enjoyed being a Special Programs Manager as well as a Manufacturing Control Manager for multiple projects at military bases in the US and throughout the world. Later with Singer-Link Flight Simulation Corp.(CAE). Back in the day he was proud to be voted and crowned by the company as." King of Links". He cherished all the friendships he made throughout his years at Link as well golfing in his Singer-Link golf league. Dad enjoyed downhill skiing until his mid 80s at Greek Peak as well as skiing in France, Italy and Switzerland . Enjoyed travels to Israel, Turkey, Greece, and throughout Europe. Our dad had a humorous story about when his family moved to Binghamton as a young boy from Brooklyn. His Mom and Dad purchased the famous writer, Rod Serling's parents meat market in downtown Binghamton. His family also acquired and was moving into the Serling apartment on Chapin Street in Binghamton. The Serlings were moving to a different house on Bennett Avenue. That evening, Mr. and Mrs. Serling convinced my Dad's parents to have a date night out and stay at a Binghamton hotel. My Dad stayed overnight at the Serling apartment, and that night Rod Sirling came in to Binghamton by train for a short US Army leave. Rod asked our Dad, a young lad at that time, if he wanted the top or bottom bunk bed. Our Dad excitingly, of course, grabbed the prized top bunk. So Dad always said he famously shared a bunk bed with Rod Sterling and he got the top bunk! Our family wants to express a special thank you to all the fine care and compassion he received from Good Shepherd /Fairview, Nursing Home Rehabilitation Department and Assisted Living floor. He was known there as "handsome Larry." Throughout his stay the entire staff enjoyed his joyful Larry-isms and "beautiful day" greetings, which brightened up their day as well as his. We are also truly grateful for the excellent care and compassion he received from everyone at Lourdes – Guthrie Hospital. All the departments touched our Dad in a heartfelt way. From the ER to Hospice he received excellent care. To our "special angels" Sister Hermenegilde (Herme) Naluyima (LSOSF) and Sister Mary Jane Athieno (LSOSF), both who were always there for our Dad and family, with loving prayers, family council and endless love and compassion to help navigate our Dads peaceful passing. Also a special thank you to Julia Marsh and Bob Coe for their close friendship with our Dad. Private Entombment services were held at Vestal Hills Memorial Park. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Lawrence may be made to the charity of one's choice.
