Obituary of Kevin G. Burns
Please share a memory of Kevin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kevin Gerald Burns (76) of Binghamton, NY passed away peacefully on October 18th, 2025. Born on July 4th, 1949 in Binghamton, NY Kevin was a devoted husband, father and grandfather whose life was defined by service, compassion, and a joy for life. He was predeceased by his parents, Gerald and Anne (Cadden) Burns, in-laws Robert and Claire Donahue, and cousins James Reyen and Kathleen Reyen.
Kevin is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia "Patty" Burns (Donahue); his 3 children, Carolynn Burns (Alex Jezerski), Jennifer (Dennis) Sullivan and Kevin Burns, Jr.; six grandchildren, Henry and Charlie Peloquin, Molly, Madeline and Tess Sullivan, and Aidan Burns; his three siblings, Gerald Burns (Kathleen), Thomas Burns (Heather), and Christine Martin (Emmet); brother-in-law Jim (Carol) Donahue and sister-in-law Jan (Gary) Muehlbauer; many cousins, nieces and nephews of the Burns/Reyen/Donahue families.
Kevin was born and raised in Binghamton's West Side and lived in the city all his life, where he made many dear, lifelong friends. Of particular note, he was an original card carrying member of the Byron Bobcats crew. The tattered old card is still in his wallet today.
Kevin was a dedicated member of the Binghamton Fire Department for 32 years, as well as its Benevolent Association, where he formed many close friendships. He also owned and operated KB Insulation for many years.
Proud of his Irish heritage, and a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, he was honored to be selected as the Grand Marshal of the St. Patrick's Day parade. He was instrumental in arranging for the NYC Fire Department Pipe bands to come to Binghamton for many years.
Kevin was a great athlete and loved sports, especially the LA Dodgers. He played in many basketball leagues over the years and ran in the NYC marathon with his two daughters at 50 years old.
St. Patrick's Church was the center of his life for many years. There he attended daily mass, coached CYO basketball for 20+ years, did daily custodial work and volunteered for the "Showers for Hope" project.
Kevin loved life, his family, friends and community.
