Obituary of Timothy A. Mollen

Please share a memory of Timothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce Timothy Andrew Mollen passed away on August 18, 2025, at the age of 56. Tim was a great many things including a remarkably loyal friend, an empathic ear to anyone who just needed someone to listen, and someone who refused to compromise his primary value of kindness. But perhaps above anything else, he was a devoted son to his mother for whom he acted as caretaker. Had he been told years ago that would be the way he would spend the last years of his life, he would have gladly accepted that bargain. Tim had tremendous intellect and he put that to use as a talented improvisational comedian, writer, and actor. He even somehow managed to talk his way into writing a weekly humor column in the Binghamton newspaper. He was the lead in all the high school plays, founded an improvisational comedy group that still exists to this day at SUNY Oswego, and became an alumnus of the esteemed Second City improv program in Chicago. Whenever Tim was on stage, he was always the best one. Tim was a proud graduate of Seton Catholic Central, where despite annoying a number of his classmates, he managed to maintain lifelong friendships with them at the same time. That was Tim. Brilliant yet naïve, opinionated without being overbearing, hilarious yet emotional. He was a horrible driver and golfer. He had tremendous affinity for Neil Diamond and the band America. He wore loud clothes at times. He loved pajamas and sugared cereal. He was a fantastic uncle. He wore his heart on his sleeve but it was never disingenuous. In short, he was the best. Tim will be greatly missed by his mother, Anne, his brothers Dan, Bob, and Jerry, his sisters-in-law Beth and Mary Jean, his nephews Michael, Patrick, and Tommy, his niece Jennifer, her husband Brian, their son Brian, and scores of friends who knew they had someone they could count on. He is predeceased by his brothers John and Jim, and his father, Jack. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Highland Avenue, Binghamton, Saturday August 23, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Friday August 22, 2025 from 4 to 7 p.m. The Mass will be live streamed at www.sta-sp.org
