Obituary of John M. Walsh

Retired Fire Chief Jack Walsh has answered his last alarm. A loving Husband, Father and grandfather he lived a long, full and happy life. One month shy of his 80th birthday, Jack was surrounded by family. He was a Volunteer firefighter with the West Colesville Fire Department for over 55 years, many of those years as the Fire Chief. He worked in Emergency Services for IBM Endicott. He was also a State Fire Instructor with the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control. An avid sailor, he could often be found in Ithaca on his sailboat. He enjoyed spending time on the boat, especially with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Patricia Husband. He has two sons, James (Mary Beth) and Patrick (Hollie) with many cousins in both the US and in Ireland, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was a sailor in the US Navy during the Viet Nam era. Donations in his honor may be made to the West Colesville Volunteer Fire Department or the Lourdes Guthrie Hospice. The family would like to thank the professionals with Lourdes Guthrie Hospice for the prompt attentive care. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Mary's Church, Route 11, Kirkwood, Tuesday April 22, 2025 at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Monday April 21, 2025 from 4 to 7 p.m. An Irish wake is likely to follow at the AOH in Binghamton, across the street from the funeral home.
