Please share a memory of Hugh to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Hugh John "Jack" Reynolds, 88, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025, surrounded by his family. Hugh was born on August 11, 1936 and spent his early years in Manhattan. During Grammar School he met the love of his life, Maureen and they were married at Church of the Holy Name in New York City in 1959. Together for 66 years, their love for each other was unwavering. Hugh graduated from the Academy for Aeronautics and Technology in Queens, New York with a licensed specialty focused on the inspection and repair of Sikorsky helicopters. Hugh had several careers throughout his lifetime. For 9 years he was a member of the New York Air National Guard at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, New York where he served as a driver of an Aircraft Rescue Firefighting Truck. Hugh's career then turned towards Hobart, one of the largest food equipment companies in the world. For 40 years, he owned and operated very successful Hobart agencies in Elmira and Binghamton, New York. Throughout Hugh's life, his passion was being a volunteer firefighter. He was the Commissioner and later Assistant Fire Chief of the West Elmira Volunteer Fire Department as well as the President and Safety Officer at Vestal Fire Department Station Four. He also was very involved through the years with several volunteer/service organizations. He served as President of the Vestal Rotary and President of the Broome County Chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. In 2014 Hugh was honored to serve as Co-Grand Marshal with his wife Maureen, for the famous St. Patrick's Day Parade in Binghamton, New York. Hugh and Maureen moved to Good Shepherd Village in Endwell, New York in 2014. During that time, Hugh served as President of the Residents' Council and was responsible for establishing the Incident Response Team for the entire Good Shepherd Village. Hugh's "loves" were many and varied. He loved to travel, spend time with great friends, and make (generally successful!) casino visits with Maureen. He loved his dog, Lexi, and his Irish Heritage. Hugh was predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Ann (Brady) and his brother, Joseph. Hugh is survived by his devoted wife of almost 67 years, Maureen (Ahern) of Endwell. Hugh is also survived by his loving children; John and his wife Nancy of Mountainside, New Jersey; AnnMarie and her husband Paul of Freeville, New York; Michael and his wife Meg of Old Saybrook, Connecticut; and Maureen of Salem, New Hampshire; his cherished grandchildren Bridget and Madeline Reynolds; Christopher Streeter and his wife Julie, Patrick Streeter and his wife Jess, and Laura Keniston and her husband Kyle; Clare McGrath and her fiance' Owen Ortolani, Emily Wall and her husband Jonathan, Andrew Reynolds, James McGrath, Charlie McGrath, Thomas Reynolds, and Terrence McGrath; as well as five great-grandchildren: Morgan and Elise Streeter, Beau Keniston, and Lucy and Ryan McGrath; his siblings Matthew and his wife, Brenda; Thomas and his wife, Susan; Patricia and her husband John Looby; and sister-in-law Barbara; numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Good Shepherd Memory Care and Skilled Nursing Units. The care, compassion and friendship that was extended to Hugh, Maureen and their family will be something for which we will be forever grateful. His daughter Maureen and he enjoyed a very special bond. And Maureen's support for her mother and father throughout Hugh's long illness was above and beyond the call of duty. Her family extends a very special thank you to her for all the time, energy, love and sense of humor she shared with them these last few years.
