Dorothy Lane Dowdle, of Vestal & Binghamton, New York, passed away on September 28, 2021 at the age of 91. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband and best friend Edward F. Dowdle on December 2001. Also predeceased by her parents Molly (Mahoney) & Ambrose Lane, sister Evelyn Spring (Bill Spring), brother Robert (Beverly) Lane, and brother-in-law Dr. Leonard Steed. She is survived by her children Mariliz (Spero) Pines of Vestal, Patricia (Carl) Zimmer of Binghamton, John P. Dowdle of Conklin, and Thomas E. Dowdle of Albany. She loved her grandchildren Kathryn (Dan) Flanagan, Theodore (Nicolette) Pines, Shannon (Dean) Overmyer, Vincent Dowdle, Tyler Dowdle, Alan M. Rollo, Ryan Dowdle and Nicholas Dowdle. She is survived by her sister Joyce Steed who was her best friend and travel companion. Also survived by her Great Grandchildren Grace & Jake Flanagan and a special cousin Kathleen Noon who she and Ed also traveled with. She also had many nieces, nephews and cousins that she loved. Dorothy & Ed were proud proprietors of Dowdle's Grocery Store for many years. Dorothy retired from NYNEX Telephone Company as a Manager in Repair with 25 years of service. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America (she loved her Pioneer friends) and Our Lady of Sorrow's Church. Dorothy was proud of her Irish Heritage. She cherished her trips to Ireland with her sister Joyce and their cousin Rev. Gerald Buckley. She was a proud member of the Lane and Mahoney clans of Binghamton and Pennsylvania. The Mahoney Reunions were legendary beginning in 1915 and lasting over 90 years. An East Side girl who could regale you with stories of her neighborhood, i.e., the Cameo Theater, Carnsie's Bar & Grill, Calvin Coolidge/East Junior/North High Schools, Fairview Park, and many other sites and venues of Binghamton's East Side, all within a stone's throw distance of her childhood home on Robinson Street. In her 90's when it was time to relocate she continued on the East Side at Good Shepherd-Fairview. She loved her life, her family and friends, and lived it to the fullest! She will be sorely missed. A Funeral Mass will be offered at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 801 Main Street, Vestal, Monday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City.
