Please share a memory of Eileen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Friday, May 14, 2021 the Lord looked around and decided he needed a caretaker for the beautiful flowers of Heaven. He then called our mom, Mrs. Eileen Cooney, 75, of Binghamton back home to him to tend the flowers she loved so much. She left behind her proudest accomplishments, her two daughters and one son in law, Dr. Julie F. Cooney, Clinton, NY, Mrs. Ellen T. Medina and Mr. Kary A. Medina both of Endicott, NY; as well as her four legged faithful friend Tucker. She is also survived by two sisters –in-law and three brothers-in-law, Mrs. Mary Lanpher, Chittenango, NY, Mrs. Ann Abramczyk and Mr. Ken Abramczyk, both of Rome, NY and Mr. Daniel Cooney and Mr. Patrick Key both of NY, NY. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. Among them two cousins she held especially close to her heart, Mr. Peter Savage of Indianapolis, IN and Mr. Francis J. Cooney of Windsor, NY. Eileen was blessed to have many close friends, among them Mrs. Pat Roundy, Ms. Debbie Cornell and Mrs. Diane Huntley. Eileen was predeceased by her parents, Dr. G. Perry and Dorothy Fisher, her husband and high school sweetheart Thomas L. Cooney, her son Thomas J. Cooney and her sister, Mrs. Barbara E. Kramer. Eileen graduated from Hartwick College, School of Nursing with an RN, BSN in 1968. She began her nursing career in public health from which she transferred to private duty until eventually finding her passion in Long Term Care Nursing. She worked at a few facilities before finding her home at Willow Point Nursing Home from which she retired as Deputy Administrator of Health Services. Mom was dedicated to her family and her work. She loved to work in her flower garden, many passersby commented on her beautiful flowers. Eileen was thoughtful, empathetic, unselfish and kind. Mom found beauty everywhere, in the flowers that bloomed, the evening sky and the smell of fresh rain in her plentiful garden. The family wishes to thank the staff of Wilson Hospital and Willow Point Nursing Home for the excellent care she received. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. James Church, Main St., Johnson City, Friday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, NY. The family will receive friends at the J.A.
