Reverend Thomas F. Hobbes, 89, Retired Pastor of Christ the King Church, Endwell, died Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Mary Hobbes, a sister, Mary Burr and his brother, John Hobbes. He is survived by his brother, Edward and M.J. Hobbes, Utica, a sister-in-law, Barbara Hobbes, Stony Brook, NY as well as several nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of Utica Catholic Academy and St. Andrew's and St. Bernard's Seminaries. He was ordained to the Roman Catholic Priesthood on February 2, 1956 in Syracuse by the Most Reverend Walter A. Foery, D.D. He served the Diocese as Associate Pastor at several parishes and served on the faculty at Catholic Central High School, Binghamton. He was Pastor at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Windsor; Principal at Seton Catholic Central High School, from 1980 to 1982; Pastor of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Endicott and Pastor of Christ the King Parish, Endwell from 1994 until his retirement on August 20, 2008. Father Hobbes was a great supporter of the Catholic Schools of Broome County and an avid fan of Seton Catholic Central Athletics. He loved opera and was in regular attendance at Tri Cities Opera performances as well as in New York City. Father Hobbes was a socially active priest in the community and was consistent in how he lived his life. He was always generous with the less fortunate. He was loved by the people he served and helped foster priestly fraternity. Father Hobbes will be welcomed into the Church of the Holy Family, 3600 Phyllis Street, Endwell, Monday at 5 p.m. where he will Lie in State. At 7 p.m. a Vigil for a Deceased Priest will commemorate his life. A con-celebrated Funeral Mass will be offered at the Church of the Holy Family, Tuesday at 11 a.m. by his fellow Priests and the Most Reverend Douglas J. Lucia, D.D., Bishop of Syracuse. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Utica, NY in the spring. The Mass will be livestreamed at holyfamilyendwell.com. Please use the Watch Mass icon.
