Obituary of Bernice M. Thompson

On January 11, 2021, Bernice Marie Thompson, 82, passed away peacefully after a long journey with Alzheimer's. She was predeceased by her parents, Helen and George Fulton of Hazelton, PA and the love of her life, Paul G. Thompson. They married at St. Gabriel's Church in Hazelton in 1957 and were together until his death in 2007. She is survived by her brother, George (Nicky) Fulton of Hazelton, and her children: Michael and Michele Thompson of Binghamton, Anthony and Jenifer Thompson of Erieville, NY, Joann and Geoff Doolittle of Greene, NY, Jacqueline and Carl Speicher of Brackney, PA, and Susan Ryan of Binghamton; grandchildren; Ryan, Tyler, and Brittany (Jason Brewer) Doolittle, Joseph and Margaret Ryan, and Molly Speicher. She was blessed with a great-granddaughter, Addilyn, and several nieces and nephews whom she loved. Throughout her life, Bernice was dedicated to her home, family, and faith. She loved music and shared her beautiful singing voice in the choirs of Blessed Sacrament Church and St. Patrick's Church. She had a deep faith which she shared as a volunteer in Marriage Encounter, Teen Seminar, and other local groups. She attended daily mass at Lourdes Hospital Chapel and loved her walks around the Westside and along the Susquehanna River. The family would like to thank the friends and neighbors who graciously helped her stay in her home of 50 years on Bennett Ave and, in the final years of her life, the wonderful staff and visitors at Hilltop and Elizabeth Church Manor. Bernice was a dedicated blood donor, giving blood 185 times, and multiple platelet donations, throughout her life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate blood or make a contribution to the American Red Cross at redcross.org. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Patrick's Church, corner of Oak and Leroy Streets, Binghamton, Friday, January 15, 2021 at 11a.m. She will be laid to rest at St. Augustine's Cemetery in Silver Lake, PA in the spring.
