Obituary of Michael A. Farina

Michael Farina, 86, of Binghamton, NY, peacefully passed away on January 4, 2021. Michael Farina was born on June 18, 1934, to Dominic and Rose Farina of Susquehanna, PA. Michael graduated from Laurel Hill Academy in 1952 and enlisted in the US Army. From 1953-1955, he was stationed in Camp Gordon, GA and Camp Fuji, Japan before continuing his education. While studying education at Bloomsburg College, Michael met Anne Breslin. The pair graduated from Bloomsburg College in 1959 and were married in 1962. Michael and Anne moved to Kirkwood, NY, to continue their careers in education and had a daughter, Lynn. Michael pursued his Master's degree in administration from SUNY Oneonta. Michael had an impressive career as a principal in the Windsor School District for over 30 years, working at Floyd L. Bell Elementary school and Windsor Elementary school. He was passionate about education and thoroughly enjoyed working with his students and fellow colleagues over the years, many of whom became lifelong friends. After his retirement in 1990, Michael spent his time golfing, catching up with friends at Cortese, following horse racing, and doting on his granddaughters, Laura and Leslie. Michael was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Anne; and his sister, Ann Hennessy. He is survived by his daughter, Lynn (Marc) Amato; his granddaughters, Laura and Leslie; his brother, Frank Farina; and his longtime friend, Judith Saar. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Patrick's Church, corner of Oak and Leroy Streets, Binghamton, Friday, January 8, 2021 at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital, a charity Michael supported.
