Patricia L. Altavilla, age 84, passed away at Lourdes Hospital, in Binghamton, NY, on December 11, 2020, with her loving husband of 48 years, Alex Altavilla, by her side. She was a lifelong Binghamton-area resident, born July 25, 1936, the eldest daughter of her beloved parents, the late Louis and Anastasia Ganim. Patricia graduated from St. Patrick's Academy in 1954 and earned an associate degree in chemistry from Broome Community College. Patricia was employed by I.B.M. for 25 years, working in organic chemistry at the Owego, Glendale and Endicott campuses. Patricia loved to travel, enjoyed researching her family history and was a talented artist. She volunteered for the Ladies of Charity and was an active supporter of numerous charitable causes. She will be missed dearly and fondly remembered by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband Alex, stepson Troy Altavilla, stepson and daughter-in-law, Reid and Stephanie Altavilla, and stepdaughter Alexa Fox, as well as four granddaughters and one grandson-in-law: Jasmine Juteau and Joey Allen, Erika Spagnola, and Brittney and Brianna Altavilla. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ganim and Bob Philpot, sister-in-law Linda Ganim, several nieces and nephews, including Kristyn Ganim (Jerry Viele) and David Ganim (Sara Ellis), beloved cousins, particularly Barbara Ganim, and many wonderful friends. She was predeceased by her dear brother, Louis Ganim, Jr. Memorial services will be held at a future time to be announced; those wishing to remember Patricia in a special way may make a donation to Our Lady of Sorrows Church, PO Box 326, Vestal, NY 13851; online at: olsvestal.weshareonline.org.
