The Slobodzian's
I met Gerri at St. Vincent de Paul Church, as a young seminarian in the summer of 1995. And, due to no merit on my part, she just liked me and has done so till her death. She and Tony came down to New Orleans for my diaconate ordination in January 1998. And every time I have passed through the Tricity area, I make it a point to visit her. She often had a hearty meal ready for me, until more recently when her health was not very strong. Even then, she made sure I had something to eat.
This kind lady has been like a mother or grandmother or both to me all these years. And through her I have met and come know her extended family, who have become like family to me.
May her soul rest in peace.
PS. This is a picture of my last visit to her, on her last birthday this past July. I will always remeber her, especially in my prayers and Masses.
