Obituary of James Slattery
James N. Slattery returned to his heavenly home on Sunday January 14, 2018. He was born April 9th, 1926 in Willett, NY to Bonnie and James M Slattery. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother John. He is survived by his wife, Jean with whom he would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on May 1st 2018. He was loved and will be forever missed by his sons and daughters-in-laws Gary & Mona, Paul & Linda, Brian & Debbie and Kevin & Debbie. He was "Papa" to Erin & Robert, Jill & Chris, Kelly & Andy, Kate, Jimmy & Ella, and Julie as well as his great grandchildren Brynn, Ryan, Zach, Enzo, Rocco, McKenna, Mia and Kinslee. He is also survived by three sisters-in-laws, many nieces and nephews and numerous friends. Jim was a veteran of World War II, a recipient of the Purple Heart and a lifelong member of the DAV Chapter 60. He served in the third army under General Patton. He was thrilled to take the Twin Tiers Honor Flight to Washington DC in November 2016. He was employed by E.H. Titchener for 50 years working his way up from a stock boy to Vice President. He was a self- taught engineer. Jim was a perfectionist in all he did. He was never without his camera in his shirt pocket and delighted in taking pictures. He loved to bake, especially his legendary kolaczki. He was devoted to his family and an enthusiastic supporter of all his grandchildren and great grandchildren's activities. Jim relished his weekly trips with Jean to Turning Stone. He was an avid Yankees fan who was also fond of fishing. He enjoyed traveling and one of his greatest memories was his tour of Ireland with his oldest son Gary. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. James Church, Main Street, Johnson City, Friday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Whitney Point at a later time. The family will receive friends at the J. A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's name to Twin Tiers Honor Flights, 2735 Slaterville Road, Brooktondale, NY 14817.
