Obituary of Robert O. Allen

Robert O. Allen III, Aged 50, died on Sunday, July 16th surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. He is predeceased by his Paternal Grandparents, Dr. Robert and Helen Allen and Maternal Grandparents John and Mary ("Myrt/Georgie") Liska. He is survived by his wife, Bridget, one daughter and son-in-law, Whitney and Jacob Gallagher, one son, Matthew Allen, his mother, Judith Allen, and his father, Robert O Allen Jr., his sister and brother-in-law Tamara and Mark Richard, nieces Deminica and Meghan Richard and nephews Mark, Daniel and Zachary. He is also survived by his mother- and father-in-law, William and Marianne LaViola, his sister- and brother-in-law Lorre and Bruce Johns, niece Stephanie Johns and nephew Thomas and Haley Johns. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends and his faithful companion "Buddy". He was a member and officer of the Chenango Bridge Volunteer Fire Department. He graduated from Chenango Valley High School, Broome Community College and attended Binghamton University. He worked with his Grandfather at Allen Veterinary when he was young and later worked for Broome County dispatch, Preston Trucking, Overnight, Menlo Logistics, UPS, Broome Developmental Center, and finished his career doing what he loved most, working with his Father managing the family business at R.O. Allen & Son LLC. Family was his greatest joy. He was passionate about his Irish heritage and loved to have a beer and tell a good joke or funny story. He loved spending time fishing and boating at Sandy Pond which is where he spent most weekends of the summer when he was growing up with his grandparents and cousins. He enjoyed history and often travelled to historical places that he was interested in. He always wanted to do the right things and help anyone that needed it. He will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank the staff of Broome Oncology and Cyberknife for all of their support. He loved Dr. Yalamanchili and Dr. Haq and appreciated their care and support. They would also like to thank all of the nurses and aides on South Tower 5 at Wilson for their loving care. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. James Church, Main Street, Johnson City, Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Bob was very passionate about helping children with cancer- In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Bob's name may be made to St. Judes Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105
