Obituary of Richard J. Casey

Richard J. Casey, 79, formerly of Endicott, entered into eternal life peacefully Thursday, June 22, 2017 at the FASNY Volunteer Fireman's Home, Hudson, NY. Casey fought a long and difficult battle with the debilitating effects of a stroke, just like he did a fire, with courage. He was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Elizabeth Casey; a sister, Kathleen Novak. He is survived by a daughter, Brenda Casey, TX; a son, William Casey, PA; three grandsons, Tyler, Brandon and Gabriel; a great grandson, Alexander; a sister, Patricia Casey; several nieces, nephews, cousins and his best friend, Bob Boerner. He served in the National Guard after graduating from St. Patrick's School in Binghamton, then becoming a volunteer firefighter for Vestal Fire Company #2 from 1958 to 1963. Casey then joined the Endicott Fire Department, retiring after 27 years of service. After retirement, he worked at Meals on Wheels of Western Broome. He was a member of the Endicott Elks Club. The family expresses gratitude and special thanks to all the staff at the "Home". Memorial Services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Wednesday at 11 a.m. Reverend Mark Stento will officiate. Private entombment will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home, Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. The Fireman's Honor Guard will conduct a ceremony prior to the memorial service . Expressions of sympathy may be made to the FASNY Volunteer Fireman's Home, 125 Harry Howard Avenue, Hudson, NY 12534 in Casey's memory to honor and care for our volunteer firemen in their time of need.
