Obituary of Dorothy M. Linehan

Dorothy Mae (Kruger) Linehan passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on May 4th after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was 88. Born in Albany, NY, Dorothy was the daughter of German and Dutch immigrants, Albert and Johanna Kruger. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of nearly 61 years, Francis Linehan. Dorothy was also predeceased by her brothers, Albert Kruger and Robert Kruger, her sister Annette Delahoyd, sister in law Margaret (Alex) Kruger, brother in law Raymond Delahoyd, and nephew Robert Kruger Jr. Dorothy graduated from Mt Pleasant High School, Schenectady, NY and then attended the College of Saint Rose in Albany on a NY State Regents Scholarship. She graduated with a BS degree in Nursing in 1950. Dorothy worked as an RN in the Albany area, and later travelled cross country with St Rose classmates and worked as an RN in Los Angeles, California. She returned to Albany and in 1956 married Francis Linehan. After living in Schenectady, NY, then Pittsfield, Massachusetts, she and Frank settled in Chenango Bridge in 1964, living there for nearly 50 years. Dorothy returned to work in 1972 as a School Nurse and Health Teacher at Vestal High School. Dorothy is survived by her 3 children and their spouses. Timothy and Lisa Linehan of Owego, NY, Margaret and Richard Maloney of Vestal, NY, and Joanna and Patrick Doyle of Chalfont, PA. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Meaghan (Dan) Stark, Shannon, Sean and Patrick Linehan, Erin, Kelly and Clare Maloney, Brian, Kevin and Tommy Doyle and great grandson Jack Stark. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews. Dorothy was active in the former St Catherine's Parish, as a member of the Altar Rosary Society, Bible Study Group, 50 Plus Club and a Religious Education teacher. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and served as a past president of the Triple Cities St. Rose Alumni Association. Dorothy was a dedicated, loving wife, mother and grandmother, a compassionate nurse and loyal friend to many. She was blessed with many years in retirement with her precious grandchildren and experienced wonderful trips with her husband, her sister Annette and various friends. She always had a love of art and music that she shared with her children and grandchildren. Dorothy was a positive, engaging person who always tried to see the best in people. Even during her devastating illness, Dorothy always had a smile or a positive word to share. The family would like to thank the staff at Susquehanna Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the loving care they provided Dorothy during her stay there. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Patrick's Church, corner of Oak and Leroy Streets, Binghamton, Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to the College of St Rose, 432 Western Ave, Albany, NY 12203 or Catherine's Cupboard, St Francis of Assisi Parish, 1031 Chenango St Binghamton, NY 13901.
