Obituary of Edwin L. Weymouth ("Roy")

Please share a memory of Edwin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edwin Leroy Weymouth ("Roy"), age 82, of Binghamton, NY passed away peacefully on Friday, November 18, 2016. He was born in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, on January 23, 1934. He is predeceased by his parents, Harvey and Margaret Weymouth and sister, Miriam Thorson. Roy is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Nancy Weymouth, who he proposed to on their first date. He is survived by his children Nancy (Timothy) Briggs, Ted (Barbara) Weymouth, Michael (Valaree) Weymouth, Kathie (Richard) Hine, Susanne (Mark) Mieczkowski, Jennifer Weymouth, and Matt Weymouth and by his 21 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Roy fought bravely in Korea, while serving proudly for the United States Marine Corps. Roy worked as a lineman for NYSEG for many years, and then joined the family business, Meier Supply, for the remainder of his career. He was a member of the BPOE Elks Lodge #70, American Legion Post 1645, and the Knights of Columbus Peter K. Campon Council 206. He was actively involved in local politics for the Democratic Party. He was also a volunteer for the Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park, in Florida. Roy's greatest joy in life was his family, and the gatherings that took place at his Beaver Lake cottage, where he put on the best fireworks display every 4th of July, and where he was past President of the Lake Association. He also enjoyed a good card game, and even in later years continued playing at the First Ward Senior Center. Roy was the "unofficial Mayor" of Binghamton, as he knew everyone in town. He could be found at any public event, socializing with his friends and anyone who was willing to listen to his "tall-tales". He was a friend to all. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time at the Blue Dolphin, drinking iced tea, flirting with his favorite waitresses. The family would like to thank all the staff at Saint Louise Manor, who treated Roy with such love and care. A Funeral Mass will be offered at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 801 Main Street, Vestal, Tuesday at 10 A.M. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Monday from 4 to 7 P.M. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Roy lived life to the fullest, embracing every moment he had. "Semper Fi"
