Obituary of Mildred Louise Wood

Mildred Louise Phillips Wood, of Binghamton, NY died February 9, 2016, surrounded by family. Born July 22, 1917 in Montgomery PA, she was one of five children, four daughters and one son, born to Arthur Phillips and Myrtle Faust Phillips. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwyn Dayton Wood; her sisters, Geraldine Browne and Doris Ray; and her brother, Eugene Chester Phillips. Mrs. Wood is survived by her sister, Ellen DeShay of Vero Beach FL; her two daughters, Jacqueline Wood Kays (Keith) and Carol Wood Mastroe (Tom); four grandchildren, Lee Kays Googe (James), Ted Kays (Emilly), Andrew Mastroe (Julianne), Caitlin Mastroe (fiancée, Steven Ambrozik); one great-granddaughter, Genevieve Herbers; and nephews, James Browne and Carl DeShay. Mildred, a track and field athlete, graduated from Johnson City High School, later married "Woody," and they thoroughly enjoyed their years together. She was a member of the Monday Afternoon Club, Binghamton General Auxiliary and was a lifelong communicate of All Saints Episcopal Church, Johnson City. Mildred enjoyed spending time with family, horseback riding, reading, playing bridge with friends, flower gardening and an occasional Manhattan while visiting with neighbors. We would like to thank Good Shepherd Fairview rehab unit for their compassionate and loving care of our mother. A very special thank you to Joy and all the staff at The Apple Hills Café for making our mother so happy every Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, 475 Main Street, Johnson City, Thursday February 18, 2016 at 12 Noon. Reverend Christine Day, Rector, will officiate. Entombment will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endwell. The family will receive friends at All Saints Episcopal Church Thursday from 11 a.m. until 12 Noon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to All Saints Episcopal Church in her memory.
